Social Security Workforce Drops Again

2013 September 17
by Steve Perrigo

Federal employment figures are out for June 2013, and the Social Security Administration’s workforce has dropped once again, now totaling 62,877. Compared to the high of 70,270 in December 2010, staffing levels have decreased 10.5% in two and half years, despite record highs in applications and beneficiaries. Reduced staffing levels continue to negatively impact customer service and notably processing times throughout the application and appeals process.
