According to govexec.com, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is offering almost all of its most experienced employees the opportunity to take early retirement.

Approximately 15,000 of the Agency’s 62,000 employees meet the eligibility requirements: over 25 years of service, or age 50 and 20 years of service. There is no limit on the number of employees who can accept the offer, but employees must separate by September 1st.

Administrative Law Judges and Disability Determination Services (state) employees are not included in the offer. Separating employees would primarily come from Social Security field offices, payment service centers, call centers, hearing office support staff, and headquarters.

The agency has not announced how many of the retiring employees will be replaced with new hires.
